Terms of Service — EG Launcher

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of EG Launcher (the desktop app), the website https://eg-launcher.xyz, the launcher CMS, community pack hosting, and related services we operate (together, the “Service”).
This document is provided for transparency. It is not legal advice. Minecraft, Mojang, and Microsoft are not affiliated with EG Launcher.
By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy.
1. What the Service is
EG Launcher is a Minecraft: Java Edition companion. It helps you:
- Create and manage game instances (Vanilla, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge)
- Sign in with Microsoft and launch the game
- Browse and install community content from a third-party mod catalog
- Install featured packs (for example Bee’s SMP) and partner server setups
- Publish, browse, and install community
.egpackpacks after staff review - Read news and use the public website / forum
The app is proprietary (All Rights Reserved, see the LICENSE shipped with the app); its source code is not public. These Terms apply to official builds downloaded from eg-launcher.xyz/download (signed Windows setup.exe and Linux AppImage — not the Microsoft Store) and to the Service we operate. Forks and unofficial builds are not permitted without written permission and are not covered.
2. Minecraft and third-party rights
- You need a legitimate Minecraft: Java Edition license to play with a Microsoft account. Offline / demo-style accounts, where offered, do not grant you Minecraft.
- Minecraft, the Minecraft brand, and related assets belong to Mojang / Microsoft. You must follow the Minecraft EULA and Microsoft’s terms.
- Mods, resource packs, shaders, and other third-party files belong to their authors. Catalog downloads go to that provider’s infrastructure (for example Modrinth / GitHub CDNs). Their licenses still apply.
- We are not Mojang, Microsoft, or the mod catalog operator.
3. Accounts
You may use:
- A Microsoft / Minecraft account (device-code login inside the app)
- A local Minecraft Offline play account (username only, stored on your PC — not for pack publishing)
- An EG community account (Register / Login in the launcher; same users as eg-launcher.xyz)
- A website account on eg-launcher.xyz (forum, contact, etc.)
- A staff / partner account if we give you one
You are responsible for your credentials and for activity under your account. Do not share staff sessions. We may suspend accounts that abuse the Service.
4. Community packs
4.1 Publishing
From the launcher you can upload an instance as an .egpack (title, descriptions, version, changelog, optional icon). Minecraft version and loader come from the instance. Mods are listed in the pack index and downloaded later from allowed CDNs; .jar / .exe / .dll and similar binaries are not allowed inside pack overrides.
Uploads go to our object storage (MinIO / S3-compatible) via a short-lived upload URL. They stay pending until staff approve them. Rejected uploads may include a staff note. We may delete pending, rejected, or approved packs.
You may publish with an EG community account (Register / Login — same users as eg-launcher.xyz), a Microsoft account, a partner session, or a staff session, as implemented. Local Minecraft Offline play accounts (Add an Account → Offline, username only) cannot publish packs.
4.2 License you grant us
By uploading a pack you grant Egyéni Vállalkozás a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, reproduce, display, and distribute that pack (and its metadata and icon) through the Service — including the launcher Community packs page and https://eg-launcher.xyz/packs/ — for as long as the pack is hosted.
You keep whatever rights you already have in the pack. You can ask us to take a pack down; we will do so where reasonably practical. Approved versions may already have been downloaded by other players.
4.3 Your promises
You promise that:
- You have the right to upload everything in the pack (configs, resource packs, shaders, scripts, icons, text).
- The pack does not include malware, stolen paid assets, or files you are not allowed to redistribute.
- Descriptions and icons are not unlawful, defamatory, or impersonating another project.
- Mod files are referenced only from allowed HTTPS CDNs (Modrinth, GitHub, and any extra hosts we configure) — not bundled as jars in overrides.
4.4 Review and risk
Staff review is not a security guarantee. Installing a community pack is at your own risk. We may refuse, unlist, or delete packs without hosting illegal or harmful content. Limits apply (size, rate, pending versions per uploader) as implemented on the CMS.
5. Website, forum, and other content
Forum posts, contact messages, news, and other user-generated text stay in the language you wrote them. Do not post illegal content, malware, personal data of others, or spam. Moderators may lock, delete, or ban as described on the site.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Attack, scrape in an abusive way, or overload the CMS, website, or pack storage
- Bypass EG Gate, staff review, or account limits
- Upload or distribute malware, cheats sold as “official EG” content, or impersonate the project
- Use the Service to infringe others’ rights
- Redistribute unsigned self-built
setup.exefiles as official EG Launcher downloads
Official Windows installers are the signed setup.exe from eg-launcher.xyz/download. Linux uses the AppImage. EG Launcher is not distributed on the Microsoft Store. Do not download the app from random websites.
The site hosts only the current public version under https://eg-launcher.xyz/downloads/ (Windows setup.exe, Linux AppImage, and updater metadata such as latest.yml). When we publish a new version, previous installer files are deleted from that folder. There is no public archive of old installers. In-app auto-update always installs the current version.
7. Partner servers and EG Gate
Some partner / featured servers may require the EG Gate client mod and a launcher-injected token. Other launchers may be queued or refused by that server. Server rules are set by the server operator. We are not responsible for what happens on third-party Minecraft servers.
8. Ads
In-app ads are off by default in current public builds. If we turn them on, third-party ad networks (for example Google AdSense) may show ads under their own terms.
9. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that the launcher, packs, CMS, or website will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose. Minecraft, Java, mods, and community packs can crash or damage a world. Keep backups.
To the extent allowed by law, Egyéni Vállalkozás is not liable for lost worlds, lost accounts, lost profits, or indirect damages arising from the Service or from community packs.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms by editing TERMS.md in the repository and changing the Last updated date. Using a new version of the app or the website after a change means you accept the updated Terms for that version.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Hungary, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law still apply.
